Here is a top view of a mame arcade control. Because some games required two joysticks. Some games required one joystick and eight buttons; plus the coin and start button. Good to have also a "Tab" and "Escape" buttons. Some would say "Too many buttons", simply because the buttons are very close. Its done as so to minimise the space used in the room.
If you have seen the movie "Blood Sports" with Jean-Claude Van D. In the movie he play an arcade game requiring two joysticks.
An other example i think of is the game "Smash TV". One joystick for the player movement and the other joystick for the direction of the shooting.
